The city-in-space project, which failed in Madrid,
finally materialised on an industrial site on the periphery of Barcelona formerly
occupied by a cement works. With a budget substantially lower than those usually
assigned at the time to public housing, Walden-7 rises up as a monument and
point of reference in the midst of a bustling road network.
The building is a vertical labyrinth consisting of seven interior patios linked
on all levels by vertical and horizontal circulation routes. The dwellings,
the combination of square 30 m2 modules, come in different sizes, ranging
from the single-module studio to the four-module apartment, either on one
floor or duplex.
Programme Complex of 446 dwellings, public
spaces, meeting rooms, games rooms, bars and shops on the ground floor, and
two swimming pools on the flat roof.
